Arepa Spot – Myrtle Beach, SC

Arepa Spot: Bringing the Heart of Venezuela to Myrtle Beach

Arepa Spot is a new restaurant in Myrtle Beach, bringing the best Venezuelan street food to those following a gluten free diet in the Grand Strand! Arepa Spot, located at 3590 St James Ave, serves up arepas, a traditional Venezuelan sandwich made with grilled corn patties and stuffed with a variety of delicious fillings. There are currently eight varieties (all gluten free options!) on the menu, and I started with The Big Boss, a mixture of braised beef brisket and cotija cheese with cilantro and garlic aioli. This arepa was loaded with melt in your mouth brisket, and the inclusion of the authentic homemade garlic aioli really added to the flavor. It was a solid choice!

My husband had the Salchiqueso arepa which included chicken sausage covered with salsa rosada, shredded cheese, cilantro, and garlic aioli. It was excellent too! Alongside the arepas, we ordered one of their signature dishes – the tequeño, or Venezuelan fried breaded cheese sticks. These gluten free treats were cooked to perfection, with just the right amount of crisp on the outside and the queso blanco fresh cheese gooey and warm on the inside. These are highly recommended!
